Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Handshake Solutions, a line of business within the Philips Technology Incubator, today announced a license agreement with fabless semiconductor manufacturer Malaysia Microelectronics Solutions (My-MS). It will use the HT80C51 clockless 8-bit IP core in a new smartcard controller. By using one of Handshake Solutions’ standard IP blocks, My-MS gained a quick route to the benefits offered by Handshake Technology.

My-MS specializes in the design, development, and marketing of smartcard ICs. In 2004, it was recognized as the third fastest growing technology company in the Asia Pacific region by the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific program. The company has also recently been chosen to develop the high-security IC at the heart of the Malaysian national ID card.

“The HT80C51 microcontroller gave us a head start in the development of our next smartcard product, extending it's capabilities beyond existing products in terms of power consumption and functionality,” said BL Lau, Chief Operation Officer of My-MS.

By removing the clock and associated architecture of standard ICs, clock-less designs offer significant reductions in power consumption and electromagnetic emission. This allows designers to squeeze more functionality into limited power budgets and speeds up system integration. Handshake Solutions offers an extremely disciplined design methodology that delivers the unique benefits of clock-less design within a commercial environment. The methodology is supported by easy-to-use and thoroughly field-tested tooling, design services and standard IP blocks.
